Spring Break at Cocoa Beach

I thought I would give you all an update on how the rest of my spring break went. Yes, it ended about a week ago, but I have been very busy catching up on all the work I didn't do while on break, so this has been my first chance to update the blog.

So, our week in Florida was GREAT! We relaxed, swam, surfed, tanned/burned, tattooed, pierced, and slept! Our hotel was much nicer than the Southern Inn. We stayed at the Radisson Resort, which had a nice pool and a tennis court right outside of our room. It was pretty cheap too, so perfect for us. It was about 2 miles from the beach, so we drove to the beach the few days we wanted to go there. Sunday, we sat at the pool for a while and then went and walked the beach and the pier. It was a little chilly that day (only in the 70s and breezy), so we didn't swim. That was right after many hours in the car, so we just relaxed and planned out the rest of our week. Monday we went to the beach, where only 3 of us swam (the other lame people just wanted to tan/burn), but the waves were really great and we had a blast. The beach was kind of crowded, but not too bad considering it was spring break. Then, we ate at a nice Italian restaurant and luckily sat by ourselves outside because we were really loud. We pretended it was our friend's birthday and had them sing happy birthday (this was a trend at every restaurant we went to) and got some cake.

Tuesday, it was cloudy and a little cool, but my friend Victoria and I were determined to take surfing lessons, so we drove to Ron Jon's Surf Shop (crazy big and open 24 hours) to sign up for lessons the next day. However, it was windy and the waves were getting too big, so we had to take the lessons that day. This was one of the highlights of my trip! I stood up on my first try, but on the wrong foot and got confused and fell. Then I stood up almost everytime after and could ride the wave all the way in until I basically stopped. It was so much fun and I can't wait to do it again. I kinda want to live somewhere where I can surf all the time now. Victoria did very well too, but we were exhausted at the end. Oh yea, and our instructor was really hot!

Wednesday the weather was beautiful, but windy, so we went to the beach. However, it was so windy that the sand was flying at us and it hurt and wasn't fun. We also walked along the beach and saw all of these blue jellyfish type things, called Portuguese Man O Wars, washed up everywhere. They apparently have a sting 20 times worse than a jellyfish, so we decided not to swim and went back to the pool. We had fun swimming and laying by the pool and relaxed more.

Thursday we were going to go to Universal, but it was too expensive and it was supposed to be rainy and cold, so we didn't want to go anywhere else. So, we chose that day to explore the area and go to other parts of the beach and other stores. It was fun and we ended up at a tattoo parlor. At this point, my friend Dominique decided to get a tattoo and Victoria and Rory got piercings. The tattoo artist was really good and had won awards. It took a long time and was painful for her, but came out great. Sorry to disappoint you if you thought I got something.

Friday we decided to spend time at the pool until about 2pm and then head to South Carolina. However, Dominique, Rory, and I are a little ADD and decided to go for a walk instead. We were walking down one street when we saw a private resort called Treasure Island and decided to sneak in. We followed a car through the gate and walked all around. It was very nice looking but boring until we decided to take pictures at a gazebo on the water and all of a sudden 3 or 4 manatees swam by! It was awesome, they poked their heads out and flipped their tails. Another highlight of my trip (you all know my obsession with animals).

Friday night, when we got to South Carolina, we visited Erica's friend Robert and he brought us to a gay club in Charleston. It was very crowded, very hot (especially on all of our sunburns), but a lot of fun. Then Saturday we drove 15 long hours all the way home.

Sorry the post was so long, but that's what happens when I'm working until 2am and want to procrastinate.

Sounds like a great vacation - isn't Charleston beautiful? I must admit that when I read the first paragraph I was wondering whether you got a piercing or tattoo.

I wish I would have seen the report earlier. My 12 year old daughter got stung by a Man O War this afternoon at the same beach. The news is reporting the same about two other children getting stung as well. We are keeping watch to make sure no complications arise. The beach should have had some kind of warning at the Lori Wilson park area where many families go.
